The Cowboys open their 2025 campaign tonight against the Philadelphia Eagles. There is not a whole lot for Dallas Cowboys fans in Roo Nation to be happy about as they start the 2025 season.
But Marc has something for you!
Dallas and Philadelphia met for the first time in September of 1960, the first season for the Cowboys and Tom Landry’s first year as head coach. Landry made a lineup change before game time, announcing that Austin College Kangaroo Gene “Duke” Babb would start at fullback.
Babb tallied 83 all purpose yards and even found the end zone. With 12 seconds left in the game, Gene Babb hauled in a 27-yard pass from QB Eddie LaBaron for a touchdown. The onside kick failed, and the Cowboys fell 27-25.
Wouldn’t it be cool to watch a Roo score a touchdown as a Cowboy against the Eagles? Well now you can. See the video in the comments at the 1:43 mark. Appropriately, the AC football MVP award every year is named in honor of Gene Babb.
Marc has no power to fix all the Dallas Cowboys problems of the present, seen recently in the recent Netflix documentary about Cowboys ownership since February 25, 1989 (the date of my Bid Night at Austin College and the date of Jerrah’s purchase of America’s team).
But Marc can always give you a little part of the past to ease the pain of the present. Like this video of the best football player in Austin College history scoring a touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles while playing for your Dallas Cowboys.
