Jamie Muro & Michael Vick

There’s a new ESPN 30-for-30 out about the complex story of Virginia Tech’s Michael Vick. You should check it out for the Roo ties.

What Roo ties? Well, there’s the fact that Austin College & Virginia Tech share a similar past. Both schools have a 19th century “all-male, all-military” history. Virginia Tech is one of only two public universities in the country that continues to be classified by the US Army as a “Senior Military College” (SMC). The other is of course Texas A&M, which also shares close historic ties with Austin College.

What, not enough?

Well, in this video clip shared from the ESPN 30-for-30, you can see former Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer. Beamer was recently inducted into the College football Hall of Fame, alongside Austin College Kangaroo Mel Tjeerdsma. In the video, the reporter mentions that Vick and two other QBs are competing and that “Coach Frank Beamer hopes someone steps up by the end of spring practice.”

What, STILL not enough? Geez, tough crowd.

OK fine. The reporter for the Roanoke, VA affiliate is none other than our own Jamie Muro, former Austin College pitcher from the 1990s and current New England hockey Dad. Muro’s in an ESPN 30-for-30! I need to start dreaming bigger. Well done Jamie.
