Crimson & Gold Challenge: #5 of 5

So, here’s the deal.  This week is the AC Crimson & Gold Challenge to benefit Roo athletics.  To help out the cause, I’m giving away five signed, early copies of my new Roo Tales book, “the Rivals & Legends of Austin College.”  If you want to win a copy, all you have to do are three things:

(1) Like or comment on one of my five AC Crimson & Gold Challenge posts this week.

(2) Give to the AC Crimson & Gold Challenge.  See giving link in the comments.

(3) Hope that JR Ohr draws your name out of a hat of Roos who completed the two tasks above.

I’ll be writing about five “legends” in the book over five days this week, in order to encourage you all to give.  Today’s legend is Larry Fedora.

Have y’all ever watched a football game featuring veteran coaches that is briefly interrupted by footage of those coaches during their playing days?  I love that kind of stuff.  That type of thing could be done for Larry Fedora.  Before coaching stints at Baylor, Air Force, Middle Tennessee, Florida, Oklahoma, Southern Miss, North Carolina, Baylor again, and the USFL, Larry Fedora was an All-American wide receiver at Austin College.

Larry also graciously agreed to write the foreword of my latest Roo Tales book, “Rivals & Legends.”  That book, which tells the story of AC competition against rival schools and AC Legends in the Hall of Honor, should be 100% done by Labor Day.  Larry is one of the stories in the Legends section.  Texas A&M, in my & Larry’s hometown of College Station, is one of the stories in the Rivals section.  Thanks Larry, for the foreword!

This is not the first collaboration between Larry and me.  Our A&M Consolidated High School alma mater turned 100 years old in 2020, and I was invited to be a part of the Centennial Committee to write.  That writing turned into a book: “100 years: Stories of the A&M Consolidated Centennial.”  One of the stories in the book is an interview with Coach Larry Fedora, his coaching career, and the influences on him during his time in Sherman.  See link in the comments.

Have y’all ever watched a football game featuring veteran coaches that is briefly interrupted by footage of those coaches during their playing days?  I love that kind of stuff.  That type of thing could be done for Larry Fedora.  And you know why?  Because sitting in the AC archives are old 8mm reels of Austin College football from Larry’s playing days in the early 1980s.  I say we get that footage digitized and sent to the major networks, so that the next time Coach Fedora is leading his team to victory, a nationwide audience can also enjoy Larry catching a touchdown for dear ol’ AC.

Comment on this post and give to the AC Crimson & Gold Challenge to have a chance at winning a signed, early copy of “Rivals & Legends.”  You can then read all about Roo Legend Larry Fedora.  Heck, you can read all 391 pages and taken in the many rivals & legends of Austin College.
