Crimson & Gold Challenge: #3 of 5

So, here’s the deal. This week is the AC Crimson & Gold Challenge to benefit Roo athletics. To help out the cause, I’m giving away five signed, early copies of my new Roo Tales book, “the Rivals & Legends of Austin College.” If you want to win a copy, all you have to do are three things:

(1) Like or comment on one of my five AC Crimson & Gold Challenge posts this week.

(2) Give to the AC Crimson & Gold Challenge. See giving link in the comments.

(3) Hope that JR Ohr draws your name out of a hat of Roos who completed the two tasks above.

I’ll be writing about five “legends” in the book over five days this week, in order to encourage you all to give. Today’s legend is David Norman.

Can you imagine devoting yourself to AC athletics over a period spanning six decades? That’s Coach Norman. Let’s do a countdown.

2020s: Oversees the Jerry Apple Stadium renovation project. The “KANGAROOS” in the south end zone looks great.

2010s: Athletic Director of Austin College. Enthusiastically supports alum who starts writing Roo Tales. 😂

2000s: AC Head Football Coach. Coach Norman and his 2000 Roo Football squad is a story in an earlier Roo Tales book.

1990s: AC Head Baseball Coach. Coach Norman and my baseball playing fraternity brothers are a part of a story in my latest book, “The Rivals & Legends of Austin College.”

1980s: AC Football player. Coach Norman and his 1981 national championship teammates are a story in an earlier Roo Tales book.

You: “But wait, that’s only five decades Marc.”

Hey, I ain’t done. I haven’t gotten to the 1970s. I may tell the story this fall of the magical Roo season of 1979. That conference winning campaign included a win over TIAA rival Lubbock Christian in Sherman. As reported in the AC newspaper, “freshman David Norman dived in for the final AC touchdown with seconds left to cap the final score at 36-0.”

That’s six decades my friends.

Coach David Norman appears in my new book, “The Rivals & Legends of Austin College.” In the story about former AC Head Coach Joe Spencer, I wrote an introduction about Coach Norman and AC baseball during my years in Sherman. The story was written just before David Norman deservedly received the Joe Spencer Award for Meritorious Service and Lifetime Achievement in Coaching.

Comment on this post and give to the AC Crimson & Gold Challenge to have a chance at winning a signed, early copy of “Rivals & Legends.” You can then read the story of Roo Legend Joe Spencer, featuring Roo Legend David Norman. If you give to the Jerry Apple Stadium renovation project alongside Sarah Gunderson’s generous match, you will be moving AC one step closer to night games illuminating that beautiful “KANGAROOS” end zone, where David Norman scored a touchdown six decades ago.
