If I were Southwestern Assemblies of God University, I think I’d go with the acronym SWAG instead of SAGU.
SWAG is the free stuff you get at a convention, and Generation Z’s new
term for “cool.” SAGU sounds like something you’d need to clear up with
a script from your family practitioner. SWAG used to have a more
negative meaning a long time ago, which might explain the decision to go
with SAGU instead.
The Roos met SAGU in Waxahachie last night,
and came away with the win. Way to go Roos. AC is the most recent
collegiate opponent to score in the town of Waxahachie. They’re also
the first collegiate opponent to do so.
Trinity moved from
Tehuacana to Waxahachie in 1902. Their 1903 Tiger team was unscored
upon at home, defeating Texas A&M (18-0) and TCU (30-0) among
others. In 1904, the Roos made the 90 mile trip to Waxahachie for the
first ever AC-Trinity matchup.
Trinity won that first game 115 years ago by a score of 23-6. From the Waxahachie Daily Light:
“While the visitors suffered a severe defeat they must be given credit
for being the first team that ever scored against Trinity on the home
grounds.”
AC faces Trinity in San Antonio on Saturday, October 5th. Michael Dickens and I plan to be there. Chad Carey and Kate Currie Carey
will be hosting a pregame event at his restaurant Barbaro near campus
(McCullough & Huisache); it’s a great scene and you are all
encouraged to attend. More information to come soon. Thanks Chad &
Katie!
Tough luck SWAG/SAGU. If you don’t like how I “kick” it, you are free to “block” me. I’ll understand.
