I’ll admit it. My brain is a little weird. I saw this recent graphic from a baseball game in California. I quickly realized I could use it as a writing hook to promote Austin College Legends 2023 and give a shout out to a Kangaroo!
The ANAHEIM Angels scoreboard operator had a little fun at the expense of the visiting Texas Rangers. Texas catcher Jonah HEIM approached the plate as the ANAHEIM operator mentioned that Jonah HEIM failure to name his daughter ANA was a “missed opportunity.” As it turns out, Marc has his own ANNAHEIM story.
Reed Heim was a three-time ASC All-Conference linebacker for Austin College in the late 1990s. Heim’s coaching stops after graduation include AC, VMI, Baylor, Hendrix, Tulsa, and the University of Colorado. Today, Heim is the Head Coach of the Denton Guyer Wildcats. You better believe I’m now a Guyer fan.
Guyer just completed a remarkable 14-1 season, dispatching powers Highland Park & Southlake Carroll in the Class 6A playoffs before falling to eventual champ Desoto in the semifinals. Heim will be inducted into the Austin College Hall of Honor during the Legends weekend of July 28-30, 2023. See the comments for a Dave Campbell’s Texas Football interview with Coach Heim and a link to Legends 2023.
I got to meet Coach Heim earlier this year at Claude Webb Jr.‘s Gar Hole. There, we briefly chatted about Roo Tales, Guyer football, and the victory over Southlake Carroll. If you haven’t visited the Gar Hole yet, make plans to do so. And those plans might as well include Legends 2023. The Friday night ‘Roos Reception on July 28 will take place at The Gar Hole.
Where’s the Gar Hole? 106 Houston St., in the little town of Anna. That’s right Roo fans, Anna. During Legends 2003, if you visit the town of ANNA, HEIM will be there to talk all about his Roo playing past and outstanding coaching present. Failure of you to do so? Sounds like a huge “missed opportunity.”
