“In the 122 years* of Austin College football, no Roo has been in the end zone more than Jason Johnson.”
– Marc Parrish, AC Hall of Honor Nomination of Jason Johnson
“I can assure you that if you asked any offensive lineman from those years what they wanted to do, they would all say to line Jason up in the I formation and go right at the defense. Every man would tell you Jason was ‘the man’ and a team leader.”
– Roo Offensive Lineman Brien Sanders, AC Hall of Honor Letter of Recommendation
“One of his most exciting runs was in 1990 at an away game versus nationally ranked Tarleton State. The rowdy home crowd may have been more determined for victory than our opponent on the field that night. What we all remember is Jason receiving an option pitch, splitting the defenders, sprinting 50 yards for the end zone, and with about 20 yards to go raising his “#1″ finger in the air to the jubilation of the Austin College faithful and to the dismay of a now hushed Texan crowd. An incredible sight that still sends a chill up and down the spines of all who remember.”
– Roo Quarterback John Talley, AC Hall of Honor Letter of Recommendation
*122 years officially. 125 years if you are persuaded by the next Roo Tale. It kicks off Saturday, September 29th.
In the meantime though, hey! Who’s psyched about that TD John Talley just described? Who wants to see it?
