The Southlake Carroll Dragons meet the Austin Westlake Chaps in the Texas Class 6A D1 championship game. Kickoff is 7pm Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.
If you are a Roo fan deciding for whom to root, well, maybe I can help.
The family of Roo football veteran Art Clayton has a sophomore offensive lineman on the Dragons squad. The family of Roo baseball veteran Kelly Carver has a sophomore defensive lineman on the Dragons squad. The family of Roo Wendi Carver has a sophomore kicker on the Dragons squad.
What, not enough?
OK. The grandfather of Dragon Head Coach Riley Dodge is a former coach who nearly won a state title in 1985. On that 1985 squad was Bill Didlake, Roo safety on the 1988 TIAA Champion Austin College Kangaroos.
Still, not enough?
OK. Dragon running back coach Cade McCrary is the son of Hardee McCrary, former Longhorns assistant coach under Mack Brown and former Roo footballer from the 1970s. Hardee McCrary sits in the Austin College Hall of Honor.
You need more?
OK. Dragon standout running back Owen Allen is the son of Meredith Clayton Allen, Austin College Kangaroo from the early 1990s. Allen and McCrary, two Roo offspring, work closely together. You might enjoy a read on my feed today, about a Parrish family tie to the Allens. See the comments.
WHAT? You want one final argument? Sheesh. OK. Just check out the “About the Author” section from my latest book about my own Texas high school:
“Marc Parrish is a proud member of the 1986 A&M Consolidated tennis team, which qualified for the Texas Class 4A State team tournament before falling to eventual state champion AUSTIN WESTLAKE. Marc’s brother Gavin, a top 20 player in the state of Texas, qualified for the 1991 Texas Class 4A State individual tournament, before falling to the eventual state champion from AUSTIN WESTLAKE.”
*Marc screams WESTLAKE like Shatner in Wrath of Khan*
You can’t spell “Go Dragons” without “ROOS.” BEAT. WESTLAKE.
